What Is Adolescent Scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a condition that means there is an excessive sideways curvature of the spine and is often diagnosed in adolescents. Scoliosis can range from a mild case that causes aches and affects posture, to severe cases where the pain can be disabling, and your child struggles to participate fully in their school life and hobbies.
Thanks to years of knowledge and expertise I have been able to help a whole range of adolescents that have been suffering from scoliosis and helped them avoid braces and surgery, return to activities that they thought they were no longer able to do, and enjoy a happy, healthy life.
What Causes Adolescent Scoliosis, And Why Is It A Problem?
It’s not entirely clear what causes scoliosis, but it is believed that scoliosis can be genetic, as well as being caused by injuries, neuromuscular conditions, and birth defects.
During adolescents, scoliosis can be accelerated due to your child’s rapid growth and development.
This can often mean that your child is first diagnosed with scoliosis due to worsening symptoms, or scoliosis which they were diagnosed with in their early years getting much more severe.
Whatever the situation, adolescent scoliosis can have a dramatic impact on your child both physically and mentally.
The fear of wearing a brace, having to have surgery, and the normal pressures teenagers face, means adolescent scoliosis can have a huge toll on children.
Why You Haven't Been Able To Cure Your Adolescent Scoliosis Before?
I know from speaking to many patients of children with scoliosis, that you’re probably sick of the same old advice – being told to wait and see if your child’s scoliosis gets worse, and if it does, resort to braces or surgery.
I appreciate that you don’t want to wait. Because waiting means that it’s more than likely going to get worse! And waiting also means your child suffering the physical and emotional toll of scoliosis for longer than they need to. As the leading scoliosis expert in Utah, I just don’t think that is fair for anyone to go through.
And here at Align Therapy, we work with your child and proactively treat their scoliosis to reduce the need for surgery and help them lead a normal life as they go through their teenage years.
Poor posture may also contribute to higher rates of sciatica in men than women.
Other potential causes may include obesity, pregnancy, trauma from an injury such as a fall, herniated discs, or certain medical conditions like arthritis or diabetes.
How Can You Treat Adolescent Scoliosis Without Pills Or Surgery?
Despite what your doctors have probably told you, there are safe, natural and proven alternatives to braces and surgery.
I have spent years researching the treatment of scoliosis using non-invasive methods so that your child can avoid going under the knife.
By identifying exactly what is happening with your child’s scoliosis, and putting together a personalized treatment plan including scoliosis-specific stretches and exercises and techniques such as the Schroth Method, we are able to help your child overcome their scoliosis challenges.
